Lyle coughed.

There was an uncomfortable silence between the Dark Shinlai and his human partner. The scrubby grass and dirt kicked into the faces of the males. They had been riding for bit before stopping again to drink some water. The heat was hard on a fluffball like Conner.

"Lyle, can you get one of the canisters from my flank...I don't exact have hands." Conner stated with a dry mouth.

Lyle then picked off one of the water holders and held it up to Conner's face.

Riya watched as the female smashed the skull of the once moving creature just to take out it's horn. She felt bad for the creature even thought it was dead. I am sure it's horn was like a mask to a shinlai when it was living to be seen without must be disgrace. She turned back to the the shinlai she was following as he spoke.

“No need for any vile discrepancy, Brute,” the Darkblood called over, his silver eyes watching her posture and movement for any sign the mammoth Shinlai might charge, “The kill is all yours, I’m not hungry,” he said, turning to start circling about the perimeter of the kill site, his gaze set to scan the encroaching Shinlai on the surrounding landscape for anyone brazen enough to breach its bounds. “Lycu,” he said in a normal tone, knowing the Air Shinlai could hear him on the wind, “Tell this witch I’ll be keeping watch.”

She thought as he spoke "so Brute and Lycu" but not that she had really seen them up close she, but she knew they were pretty high in the Darkblood ranks so watching her way around them would be wise. Then she was noticed.

“You have no grounds for being here,” he said, his voice unwaveringly cold. Taking a step towards her, his eyes narrowed at her crouched form, “Now leave before I make you wish you had.”

As he spoke she stood up to make better eye contact. "I do believe this is neutral territory so I have as much right as you." she glared slighty. She goes around all the time and has never been addressed like so. "Maybe I just came to congratulate "Brute" on her great kill of a massive rhino. "Now does it look like I am causing trouble? I will leave when I am ready." knowing that was most likely bad to say to him, but she did not like being told to leave when she just got here.

“Congratulate?” the Dark Shinlai spat with a laugh, “Brute hardly needs approval from the likes of you.” He eyed her as a name came to mind and his rare eyes glinted in recognition, “Riya isn’t it?” he thought back to the little meeting near the ice floes and wanted to burst out laughing. Glancing back as a deep, thunderous growl rang out from where Brute was standing a ways behind him, he grinned mockingly, “Heh, you’d do better to leave.”

Taking a malicious step towards the Light Shinlai, eyes wide and teeth bared in a broad snarl, Marrinus growled, “Now, get lost.”

Lycu shifted forwards to stand alongside Bute, making sure not to stand on where the horn was buried, instead standing with one foot either side of it. His head dropped lower as he eyed Volpe in the distance. “What’s he doing?” He hissed quietly. His head jerked up as a new scent caught his attention. “There’s a pair of humans.” He stated bluntly, still sniffing. “Both with Shinlai. One of them has an animal with them.” He continued, not even sure if Brute was listening.

He reared up onto his hind legs, balancing precariously. His bright orange eyes scanning the dusty landscape. He spotted one human and Shinlai and gave a bark of laughter. “Well I’ve never seen a pink Shinlai before.” He purred quietly. They were slow moving, the Shinlai seemed to be struggling with the heat. Lycu continued scanning the savannah, he could see something far off, grey in colour, with something small next to them. “Brute.” He said abruptly. “Can you see who that is?” He asked raising a paw and pointing over towards them.

"What they were doing was hunting that poor beast there...as for their reasoning for swarming like locusts I am not quite sure. I only noticed them when I heard the trample of feet upon waking from a nap. To be honest, I don't think you should go down and investigate...something about them puts me on edge..." Kayla followed her gaze down towards the valley, "I would have to agree with you there," she gave a small chuckle and scratched the back of her head.

"My master worker sent us on this trip to collect some lion's pelt, teeth and claws for one of his costumers," she explained why she was here. "We were trying to get to the other side of the valley as that's were most of the lions tend to gather, but kept coming across these darn cliffs that are too hard for Berra to climb down." She looked at her bear, "I don't think you have met her before have you?" she asked Hallow, "This is Berra, I found her while I was doing some travels and hunting for the master leather-worker up in the northern regions. She was starved and almost a goner when I found her, since then I've raised her." She looked back up at Ahaloh and smiled, "now she likes to accompany me in my travels."

La Volpe padded closer, his belly brushing the ground. And as he got closer, he heard voices he recognized and struggled to place a name to it. His brow furrowed and he narrowed his eyes. What was the name?!

“You have no grounds for being here, now leave before I make you wish you had.”

Volpe chuckled to himself. Well, he could place that harsh tone anywhere now. Those were the words of Marrinus no doubt. Dark Element, ranked fairly high among the Darkbloods, vicious temperment- based on the one time Volpe had met him. Volpe mentally listed the "stats", so to speak, of the Lai.

Volpe wasn't close enough that Marrinus would be speaking to him....

Volpe barked laughter, raising his head slightly- instinctively- like he could catch a glimps of who spoke. What guts it took to speak like that! By the sounds of it this was just some common female. Now Volpe was intrigued.

“Riya isn’t it? Now, get lost.””

Riya. Volpe filed away the name along with the memory of her voice. He slunk closer, slowly raising himself out of the grass, not that he stood that much taller than it. At just over 8 feet tall, Volpe could feel the grass spanned at least three feet. Four in others. Matched with his tawny coloring, it could still be hard to see Volpe since he didn't stand quite at full height but instead still kept his head lowered.

"I am sure she wouldn't mind it was from, but now I am thinking otherwise." she said getting irritated. "And yes it is Riya how could you forget? I didn't really catch you name, but I heard others say it, and it is Marrius correct?" she looking intently into his silver eyes. As Brute growl rang into her ears Riya did not budge but simply step slightly closer. "Now now I am not really causing trouble am I?" she said calmly.


“Now, get lost.”.
"And where must I go you suggest that it might not annoy you?" she chortled.

Though facing the two Shinlai coming at her, Brute's attention was pulled to Marrinus who had discovered a Shinai 'hiding' in the brush. She grinned and watched as the fur on his nape rose and his teeth flashed in the bright sun. She could hardly contain her excitement, flexing her toes in the warm dirt and her flanks twitching excitedly and she itched to charge the little Shinlai and send them flying.

However, Lycu interupted her dream when he approached her on her side. He began mumbling something, probably to himself, but Brute didn't notice. She kept glancing around between all the new Shinlai in the area, wanting to charge every single on of them.

Then Lycu reared up and began to laugh, catching Brute's attention. "What's so funny?" She glanced to him, a smile on her face.

"Well I’ve never seen a pink Shinlai before."

Interested, Brute reared up, too, and spotted the pink Shinlai, along with a human, in the distance. She too began to laugh and dropped her rear, landing with a heavy thud back on the earth. "Wow, that's kind of sad," She grinned, imagning herself as a pink Shinlai. "Nah, I'd roll around in mud to cover than annoying color."

Lycu remained in his rear, peering further onto the savannah, "Brute."

"What?" She asked, noticing how he was standing right over her buried horn. He did that on purpose, you baffoon.

He raised a paw and pointed to a small pair off in the distance, "Can you see who that is?"

With a heavy sigh, Brute reared again, scanning her gaze across the fields until she saw who he was pointing at. Squinting her pale blue eyes, she struggled to make out the two figures. "No, can't tell."

As soon as Volpe straightened up Lycu’s head snapped round to stare at him. He dropped silently and lightly onto all fours, making sure to avoid the horn, and stared at the back of Volpe’s head.

"No, can't tell." Brute replied to his question.

“I’ll have a look then.” He said slowly, not taking his eyes off of Volpe. “Marri.” He whispered, controlling the wind so it skimmed past Volpe and the female, carrying his words straight to Marrinus. “Volpe, that fox, is prying into your business.” He continued being careful that his words wouldn’t be heard by anyone else. To anyone who looked at him, it would be like he was mouthing words but making no sound.

Slowly his head swung round to look at the grey Shinlai in the distance. “Let’s see if I can scare you into the open then.” He mused.

And then blinked.

In that brief moment his eyes closed his whole body vanished into thin air. And seconds later he was bounding across the scrub. His feet a blur on the ground as he gave himself a boost of air to propel himself even faster. He had covered the distance in no time at all. He slowed to a gentle bound, taking a large sweeping arc to come up behind them. Staying crouched he peered at them. A large grey Shinlai with dark coloured mask, was sat talking to a small human female. His teeth split into a grin, humans were always fun. His attention switched to the animal next to them. It was a white bear of some kind. He recognised it from when he lived in the north with his parents. He tilted his head to one side. Listening. "My master worker sent us on this trip to collect some lion's pelt, teeth and claws for one of his costumers." The human female said.

‘Lions? How would a human female like her, trap and kill a lion?’ he mused to himself. He eyed the bear. That didn’t look big or strong enough to take on a lion. A grin split across his face as an idea came to him. He backed up until he was flanked by some trees, check he was still invisible, and took a deep breath. He let at a mind numbingly loud roar, amplifying it with his element, making the whole savannah echo with his roar. He had cleared an entire village with his roar once, sending humans and Shinlai running amok, this time he was attempting to heard them out into the open.

Hallow had been carefully watching the goings on of the groups down below. He saw the white shinlai that had been helping with the rhino pad away but had lost sight of him. Thinking to himself, "hmm must be an air shinlai..."

"An interesting task, but no doubt you are a strong and capable woman now, I see no issue with this job." He smiled and nuzzled her, "I would say I am as proud of you as I would be with any of my pups should I ever have them." He then listened to the story of the bear cub and smiled "You know I was once mistaken for a bear. It is good to know you have a strong companion by your side."

"As for these cliffs, I would be more than happy to escort you across, you just have to..." His sentence was interrupted by a loud screeching roar and his fur bristled. Deep down he has a sinking suspicion on whose lips that raucous noise had escaped but he kept his opinions tethered down for the time being. Standing up his full height, he large muscular body covered in annoyed and bristled fur, he stood close to Kayla and the bear cub then roared back. His voice seemed to deepen with the roar he teeth showing just enough to show he wasn't responding out of fear.

“I didn't really catch you name, but I heard others say it, and it is Marrius correct?” Riya asked then added, “Now now I am not really causing trouble am I?”

He snorted a laugh, “Marrinus. And yes, I’d consider tailing me and then eying the kill of my official cause enough for alarm,” he said candidly.

"And where must I go you suggest that it might not annoy you?" the female snapped.

Marrinus opened his mouth to throw back a retort when he heard Lycu whisper in on the warm breeze ruffling the Dark Shinlai’s mane.

“Marri.” Marrinus’s silver eyes flicked back at Lycuvayu in irritation for interrupting. “Volpe, that fox, is prying into your business,” the Air Shinlai echoed over.

He let out a deep, rumbling growl, his eyes narrowing as his lip curled up in a snarl. Enough was enough. Sending out his senses in all directions, the Dark Shinlai spread himself out over the surrounding grasses. Ants, rodents, venomous snakes, everything and anything lurking in the shadows of the brush had an even deeper shadow of its own under the midday sun and thus was highlighted and exposed to Marrinus’s scrutinizing touch. It was then that he picked up the hulking form of a Shinlai shrunken low in the dense shoots of grass just ahead of him and the female.

Turning away from Riya without another word, a deathly glare entered his eyes and he barked in the direction of the lurking Shinlai, “Hey ‘Il Serpente!’ If you’re so desperate for information that you have to slither in on other people’s conversations, then get the hell out of the grass and ask for a change!”

There were way to many Shinlai creeping around in the tall grass and now it really was beginning to pluck at his nerves.

“Marrinus. And yes, I’d consider tailing me and then eying the kill of my official cause enough for alarm.”


Volpe chuckled, that was an excellent point. Things took a sudden turn for the worse though. Marrinus started growling, which Volpe assumed was directed towards Riya.

Hey ‘Il Serpente!’ If you’re so desperate for information that you have to slither in on other people’s conversations, then get the hell out of the grass and ask for a change!”

La Volpe blinked, momentarily shocked. Serpent? No less in his own tounge. Volpe probably would have laughed hadn't it been directed at him, it was a clever remark. He raised himself slowly from the tall grass. Cautiously walking in their direction. "It's not information I was looking for, Marrinus. I assure you- I have no interest in your quarrel with..." He glanced in Riya direction, "Riya- was it? A pleasure." He greeted her. He turned back to Marrinus, nervously flicking his tail- there was little more Volpe hated than hostility- hostility directed towards him that is.

"Slither? No, I simply didn't want to alert Brute's attention over there." Volpe jerked his head towards that beast of a Shinlai. Little orbs of light flickered around his head, a habit of nervousness. They drifted (around him at about shoulder) height lazily. "I noticed even you didn't think it wise to disturb her."

"As for these cliffs, I would be more than happy to escort you across, you just have to..." His sentence was interrupted by a loud screeching roar and his fur bristled. The roar made the hair on the back of Kayla's neck stand up. All the fur on Berra stood up on end too. They both turned around, Kayla scanned the trees trying to find its source. She knew that was no lion's roar or other creatures roar, it sounded much like a shinlai's roar.

Ahaloh roared back at the source of the screeching roar. He was not afraid of whoever it was. "Show yourself," Kayla calmly ordered watching the trees, "I am not here for a fight."

“Marrinus. And yes, I’d consider tailing me and then eying the kill of my official cause enough for alarm,” he said candidly.

"Oh well then guess I should be more careful." she said winking at him. “Hey ‘Il Serpente!’ If you’re so desperate for information that you have to slither in on other people’s conversations, then get the hell out of the grass and ask for a change!” Riya turned her head in the direction Marrinus yelled noticing she now lost his attention it seemed.



"It's not information I was looking for, Marrinus. I assure you- I have no interest in your quarrel with..." He glanced in Riya direction, "Riya- was it? A pleasure." He greeted her.

Astonished by the smaller shinlai in the grass she thought it must have not been only her with the same idea that day. "Oh and nice to me you Serpente?" she didn't really think this was his name, but it was all she to go by for now.


She watched as orbs of light formed around his head knowing now he was a shinlai of light she pushed past Marrinus to stand by him, because she had a soft spot for all light shinlai. "I noticed even you didn't think it wise to disturb her."

"Not wise at all." she whispered toward him. "Now if I were you I would be careful around any of these three." she spoke now in a more serious tone.

Brute shifted her weight and landed back on the ground with another heavy thud, sighing as she slowly began to lose interest in this whole affair. She knew something was about to break, the tension in the air was thick, and it took every ounce of control to hold back from charging everything and everyone.

But she knew the time would come, and noticing the blind Shinlai, she chuckled a bit. "Oh, now that would be very fun," she smiled, turning to Lycu to invite him to charge the Shinlai, but he had other plans. Without a word of warning, Lycu vanished, a gust of wind ruffling her coat.

Brute snorted when she spotted him in the distance, a blur on the golden plains, "Way to give someone a warning, baffoon."

And like on cue, his deep throated roar ripped through the air and her body, coursing through her viens and screaming in her ears. She cringed at the pain, but inside, she couldn't help but laugh. Seeing the reaction from the others, she lifted her head and called out, "Now that was GREAT!"

"It's not information I was looking for, Marrinus. I assure you- I have no interest in your quarrel with..." Volpe trailed off as he glanced in Riya’s direction, “Riya- was it? A pleasure,” he said, flicking his tail in a vulnerable show of anxiety as he turned back to Marrinus, "Slither? No, I simply didn't want to alert Brute's attention over there. I noticed even you didn't think it wise to disturb her."

Marrinus noticed the flitting light orbs as they whisked about the young male’s head in a drowsy dance and smirked in disgust, WHY was he talking with two, count ‘em, "TWO" Light Shinlai again? How repulsive.

"Not wise at all." Riya moved in alongside the blind Shinlai, whispering something inaudibly as she eased in beside him, and making Marrinus’s lip twitch in annoyance at her ignorant sense of self security.

“Brute isn’t one to be provoked when she’s hungry,” he said with a slight sneer. Taking a step towards the two, Marrinus growled, silver eyes half narrowed, “And I’m not one for intrusion.”

"Oh and nice to meet you Serpente?"

"La Volpe." Volpe was curt and blunt in correcting Riya, but his concentration was still trained on Marrinus. This wasn't a Shinlai it would be wise to turn his back on, not even for a moment.

"Not wise at all."

Volpe was surprised to hear Riya's whisper. He glanced at her, he could sense her Light element. He was slightly comforted by the fact. It's not as if Light was the most aggressive of elements, unless they wielded lightning, but surely two Light Shinlai could overpower a single Dark Lai if need be. Volpe had his mirages and flashes that could confuse, stun, and wipe away shadows. Surely it would be useful against a Dark Lai.

"Now if I were you I would be careful around any of these three."

"I'm aware." He whispered back. He knew of Marrinus and Lycu, had met them once before. And Brute... well- if she lived up to her name chances were she was just as menacing as the rest of them.

“Brute isn’t one to be provoked when she’s hungry, and I’m not one for intrusion.”

"The same reason I kept my distance, not for eavesdropping on a conversation that holds no value to me." Volpe tried to reason with Marrinus, but when Marrinus stepped forward and growled Volpe bared his teeth in reply, a relatively quiet growl rumbling in his throat. It wasn't a gesture of open hostility, but he'd defend himself if need be.

Lycu’s lip curled back in a savage grin as the grey Shinlai roared back, bearing his teeth. ‘You call that a roar?’ he mused to himself, his eyes glinting. ‘Pitiful.’ He slunk closer to them, eyes boring into the other males mask. He was Lycu’s main interest, the human was of no concern.

"Show yourself, I am not here for a fight." The woman ordered. Lycu’s eyes snapped to her, narrowing in annoyance.

“Pity because I am.” He replied with a deep rumbling growl. He cut off halfway through, letting his invisibility fall away from him. He stood up straight and tilted his head to one side, orange eyes glaring at the pair of them. “Heh. Neither of you are worth my interest.” He said, curling a lip in displeasure. “Scrawny things.” He muttered, with a slight roll of his eyes. “May as well have some fun though.” He added.

As he spoke he launched himself through the air, aiming straight for the woman and bear cub. Claws extended, teeth bared and burning eyes filled with bloodlust. Feet from her, he vanished. Invisibility cloaking him, and a faint gust of wind caring him smoothly past them, to land silently behind the pair.

He let out a harsh chuckle, letting the wind carry and echo his voice around them. “Play time...” He purred, crouching down ready to pounce again.

“Pity because I am.”

Ahaloh's thick fur bristled. "I think you may have bit off more than you can chew" his voice calm and collected only the slightest twinge of annoyance edging each syllable. Once the white shinlai showed himself, he glared fully at him, his deep emerald eyes twinkling with a barrage of perfectly timed insults and a barrage of witty and demeaning thoughts.

“May as well have some fun though."
Ahaloh watched as the shinlai's muscles tensed beneath his fur and instantly knew he was going to pounce. Who he wasn't sure but he wasn't taking any chances. Quickly he wrapped himself around Kayla and the bear cub pulling them tight to his thick fluffy chest with barely enough time for their attacker to sail above them once more disappearing into the air. Lycu's voice echoing around him, as Hallow searched for the faint glimmer that would give Lycu away. Gently he whispered to Kayla as he scanned, "As soon as I let go you and the cub need to run, I will hold this one at bay, and as soon as you can, hide. I won't let them hurt you I promise."

His order commanded he looked up once more with a grin, "Yes play time indeed. So tell me pup, am I supposed to be afraid of one who picks a fight then hides like a simpering coward. You really wish to play come face me one to one and we will see who is actually worthy of any interest." Ahaloh's face produced a smirk all of Elisha could see, as he hoped his taunt would lure the white shinlai into an attack, giving Kayla and the bear cub time to make it to safety before things began to get messy.

Ahaloh gently pulled Kayla and the bear closer to him, surrounding them in protection. "As soon as I let go you and the cub need to run, I will hold this one at bay, and as soon as you can, hide. I won't let them hurt you I promise." Kayla nodded in response.

The white shinlai pounced at them, teeth and claws bared. Kayla out of instinct drew her daggers, ready to make a blow if need be. He vanished and soared over top, Kayla could feel where he was when flying over top of them and stuck her dagger up into the air. She likes to keep her daggers coated in poison. She could feel that the dagger barely grazed his skin, perhaps leaving a scratch, maybe just catching his fur. She was unsure. The white shinlai landed softly behind them and made his laugh echo around them.

“Play time...” purred the hidden shinlai. "Yes play time indeed. So tell me pup, am I supposed to be afraid of one who picks a fight then hides like a simpering coward. You really wish to play come face me one to one and we will see who is actually worthy of any interest." Ahaloh's face had the largest grin possible, attempting to lure the white shinlai out. Kayla giggled at his response and especially at his amazingly large grin. She shook her head quickly and regained her focus. She patted the bear to let her know that they were fleeing soon. Kayla herself got prepared to run, shifting the arrows and bow on her back but daggers still in hand.

“Brute isn’t one to be provoked when she’s hungry,” he said with a slight sneer. Taking a step towards the two, Marrinus growled, silver eyes half narrowed, “And I’m not one for intrusion.”

"Oh yes I can tell by looking at her she wants to change soon, but waits for what?" As he stepped forward she did the same glaring with all of her red eyes. "It's not like I meant to intrude, but you met my path somewhat and I just ended straying towards you."

"La Volpe."
"Okay La Volpe, I hope you are ready to fight or run if needed. It's looks like things could get messy fast." she said saying back towards him.


"I'm aware."

"I assume by looking at what you did with your light was energy right? Well I think we could hold one off together, but the both I am not so sure. Even with Lighting.." she said the last part really hushed.

I love how this is started for a huge brawl and so far all the Shinlai are mostly talking XDDD Old habits die hard!
