Hide N' Go Seek (pups)

Twas fall in the lands of Elaisha, the leaves a golden brown and orange. Piles of leaves had begun to grow and the air wasn't quite crisp yet. The perfect day for any Shinlai outside. Perfect day indeed, as there is a small little Red-Panda coated Lai making her way through the woods, her bright emerald eyes looking up as the sun shined through the color-changing leaves giving the forest a nice warm glow. Her favorite season, Saica loved the smell of fall, though she was only 5 she still remembers the smells and feels of fall. She loved how the leaves crunched beneath her paws and disintegrated with the poke of her claws, but most of all she loved watching the leaves fall in the golden warm glow of the forest. Saica was alone, not as shy as she once was when she acted as her older brother figure, Kyamos, she was much more independent and loved to explore. As she continues she looked forward to see an opening to the, what seemed like never ending, forest and she saw a meadow. Weary and cautious Saica looked out in the meadow from behind a tree closest to the edge, flowers everywhere, and from what she could see a "bald spot" she thought, in the meadow where there was a little pond that had blooming water lilies. A beautiful sight, Saica's eyes shined in its beauty, she went to take a step forward but halted when she heard rustling in the taller area of grass.

A lai pup with different colors of red and pink on her coat was stalking in the meadow grass. She kept her head low and her hind quarters in the air. Every little rustle, she would jump and pounce on it. It was usually a grasshopper of some sort. The young pup sat on her haunches and lifted her nose to the smell of water. She giggled and kept low to the floor so he belly brushed up against it and crawled forward towards the water.

On the other end of the tall grass, Trisha could smell the scent of water getting stronger and stronger till she poked her head out of the grass to see a small pond. She felt giddy and bounced over to the water till she felt it reach midway up her belly.

Saica watched as a multi shaded pink creature bounced to the water and she heard a splash. Saica had no idea what to think of what she had just seen, so instead she pried forward and ventured her way through the grass. The long blades tickled her tummy she tried to hold in her giggles, she followed the scent of water but trying to keep quiet was proving to be more difficult than she wanted.

Questions started going through her mind, 'Is it another animal?' 'Is it prey?' 'Maybe another Lai I can be friends with?!' That last thought made her excited, and she hastened her pace.

Trisha's ears faced behind her when she heard rustling coming towards her. She went deeper in the water till it was only the top half of her head poking out of the water. She felt a rumble in her throat that escaped her muzzle and bubbles came up around her face. She couldn't help but giggle again which distributed the surface of the water with more bubbles. She had to force herself to stop so she can listen to what the intruder will do.

Saica heard some form of laughter as she got closer to the opening of the tall grass, unfortunately when she got to the pond there was nothing. She looked around confused, then she looked to the water it was slightly stirred the once gentle waves were more rough. She got closer to the water stretching her neck out to stare down into it's murkiness, she slightly looked more forward to see big green eyes and a pinkish creature halfway out of the water. Saica screamed and jumped back toppling over a layer of grass.

Trisha poked her head out of the water when she realized it was another pup. The fall looking pup screamed and ran back into the grass though. She tilted her head at the pup's reaction.

What did I do? Trisha felt a trickle of water roll down between her eyes and off of her muzzle. It tickled. She shivered and shook her head.

Saica realized the creature was a Lai pup, around the same age as her, maybe younger. She calmed her breathing and got up to introduce herself. "I-I'm Saica Kaede, you...you are to tell me your name" Her voice a little shakey but she stood firm.

Trisha giggled after Saica calmed down. She swam to the edge of the pond till she was close enough to shake the water off her coat, which went everywhere. It accidently got on her. "I'm sowwy! Anyway, me name is Twisha!"

Saica whined "eeeeeeeeeeeh!" she didnt like water much. She pouted a little but once Trisha, she assumed she meant, introduced herself Saica gave her a little smile. "Youwur good at hiding, wanna play with me?"

Trisha bounced at the request. "Sure! What do you have in mind?" She loved to play all sorts of games! I wonder what she has in mind?

"Hide n seek?" Trisha tilted her head before bouncing. "Yes! I am heard of dat game!" She had looked around to get a head start on spots but she frowned when she realized that only the water could conceal her red coat.

"ok, who hides furwst?" Saica got down into a playful position, her weeping tail swishing the dirt as she wiggled her butt in excitement.

Gwyn hated the fall.



It was the actual wheather that put the shinlai nearing adolesences in a sour mood when golden, orange, and red leaves twirled down from the trees like dancers, drifting this way and that in the wind until they reached their final resting place on the forest floor before turning old, brown, and crackled. It wasn't the noise that the leaves made underfoot as one walked across the forest floor. Not the cold gusts of wind that swooped across the land and sent chills up one's spine that reminded one just how close the frostbitten winter was nor was it the steadily shortening of daylight.

No. The thing that annoyed Gwyn was her fur color.

Gywn's during the summer was a deep, rich brown with several white spots and stripes that contrasted magnificently with the deep brown of her fur. When the season's changed to winter, the young shinlai's fur changed to a very light tanish color that blended in easily with the snow. It wasn't that she didn't like it when her fur was a lighter color, it was that she didn't like the inbetween.

Inbetween phases her fur would turn into an odd distortion of brown dotted with tanish speckles or tan dotted with dark brown speckles. From the young shinlai's point of view, it was downright ugly. She hated it. She just wished winter would hurry up and get here so that her coat would finish the transition sooner.

Gwyn held a turky in her mouth as she walked through the bushes, her presences evident by the loud crackling noises of the leaves as she passed over them. It had been quite a 'catch' to escape with. Turkies were hard to carry and she found it difficult to sneak through the crowd and grab a turky and just run for it. You could do that with fish or smaller game, but not turkies. Turkies required a good deal of planning. Yet you only had to steal one of them, where as with fish you had to make multipul trips.

Her weeping tail that was tied by a green ribbion swished back and forth as she walked. She searched for a place to dine on her 'feast' in peace. She was far enough away from the town to worry about an angry shopkeeper chasing her... probably.

"Hmmm," Trisha thought about it for a second. "You should!" She bounced again then crouched down so her butt was in the air. She gave it a wiggle and she took in a nice whiff of her water lily on her tail.

"Okay! Start cownting" Saica took off into the tall grass back to the woods. Planning on hiding in a nice big pile of leaaves Saica ran at top speed, so fast leaves were rustling up at every kick of her back feet. Looking this way and that, not enough leaves had fallen to make a big pile yet, she didnt have to time to make one either so she kept running. While running something caught her eye, something large, and it moved. Saica put on her breaks and crept behind a tree to investigate, peeking around the tree she saw yet another Lai. This one was older than herself and seemed to me eating, Saica thinking she could meet yet another friend she ran over and hid on one side of the Lai. "Shhhh! We're pwaying Hide N' Go Seek" She gave the Lai the cutest smile she could muster.

A brown pup came sniffing his way in. He had his head low to the ground and he was following the scent of something edible. He didn't even realize he'd wandered so far away from home. His stomach growled when he approached, practically drooling over the turkey as he saw a striped pup gnawing on it. He decided not to take it. The pup was certainly stronger than him... most things were. He drooped his weeping tail and sank to his stomach, looking around with his ears perked up.

It was then that he noticed Trisha. He recognized her scent. She'd spoken to him before. A silly grin overtook his face. Surely she'd be up for some fun? After all, their previous play-date had been cut short by a pup pretending to be a Darkblood. He rose back to his feet and trotted over with a bounce in his step.

"Hey there!" he said excitedly.

Gwyn watched in surprise as a pup ran around her before crouching down beside her. She didn't say anything as she smiled cutely at her before going silent. She raised her eyebrows, at him. [i]As long as she doesn't bother me, she can stay.</i> she thought before shrugging and taking a bite out of the turky. Before long, another pup appeared, this one a tannish brown and spotted color.

When another pup with a growling stomach approached, Gwyn snapped her head up and stared at the small lai suspciously for a few moments, but he soon dissapeared into the bushes again. Gwyn raised her eyebrows at him aswell. What were all these pups doing here?

"...Fourty-eight, fourty-nine, fifty! Ready or not, here I come!" Trisha removed her paws from her face and looked around to where she could begin search for Saica. She was a little worried since she could probably blend in well with any of the fall environment. She eyed the forest and figured that's where she must've gone since that has more cover than tall grass. She bounded over to the trees and almost bumping into another pup.

It was Agate. Trisha remembered him from when all the pups came together to hunt and play. "Hi, Agate! Do you wanna pway hide n seek wif Saica and me? I am seeking Saica wight now! Come help me find her!"

Agate wriggled his behind in excitement. His weeping tail swished back and forth and he shot her a huge grin. "Sure!" He narrowed his eyes and took a quick glance around. Unsure exactly what Saica looked like, he started to bound around looking for anything out of the ordinary. Be it a rock or a pile of leaves, he took the opportunity to jump on it. If it didn't make an 'ooph!' sound from being tackled, he moved along.

"I'm gonna find you!"

Saica could hear the pitter patter of the a pup, she got a little confused when she heard more than one area of crunching leaves. She snuggled closer to the older Lai, her face confident and playful. "Dont move" She whispered to the Lai.

Trisha was giggling as she followed Agate and watching him pounce on every other thing that could be a possible hiding spot. Her ears perked and her nose twitched when she smell the sweet scent of a turkey. A killed turkey. She bounded towards its scent till she came upon another lai with stripes.

"Hewwo! Have you seen a wai pup that wooks wike fall?" Trisha asked as she sat to take a break. Her nose twitched again at the turkey the new lai was eating and then a more familiar scent came to her nose. Saica. Oh where, oh where, did the wittle Saica go? Oh where, oh where can she be?

Gwyn flashed a reasuring smile at the young pup before going back to consuming the turky. After taking a few more bites she paused for a moment before ripping out a perticulary large piece and giving it to the autumn colored shinlai beside her. Poor girl's got to be hugnry she thought as she smiled warmly at him before going back to eating. Normally she wouldn't of let anyone get near her 'catch'. But the bird was bigger than she'd eat, and she might as well give it to the pups around her. She didn't know how to save meat, and she had decided that it was better than leaving it for the crows.

"Yes," she mewed as the brown lai reapeared along with another shinlai she had not yet seen. A pink, wine colored shinlai. "She went somewhere... that a ways." she lied easily, guesting off towards the bushes a couple meters away oposite from the direction the two had appeared.
