The Town With No Name

I haven't posted any of these yet, but since it seems like there might be a need for a new one, I thought, "Heck, why not!".
Anyone is welcome to join. 8)

Rules:
1. Well, don't die I suppose
2. Fighting and bloodshed is allowed! There isn't enough, so for now I encourage it.
3. If you do decide to fight, please no "no matter how many times blah tried to hit blah, blah always dodged because of blah's pure awesomeness". It gets annoying when everyone is better than everyone at fighting. XD
4. Humans are allowed! But it would probably be unfair for a shinlai to attack a human, so you might want to get the humans roleplayer's permission if you want to try that.

The setting is next to a large, shallow stream, in a small town that is all but abandoned. The people who live there don't speak much and travelers don't stumble upon it very often, since it has no name on any map. I'll let your imagination decide exactly what it looks like.

The sun was up high in the sky and the little rocks laying about the ground made crunching noises as Tom walked over them. Relatively speaking, today was a nice day as far as weather went, but that morning it had been foggy, and Tom had managed to go the wrong way. However, there was a nice little town, and although it was mostly void of human life, there were a few shops still open. He'd gotten a leg of turkey for himself and was looking around for a place to eat it.

"Hmmm, there's nobody around here."
Tom sat down on a rock just outside of the town and looked around, feeling lonely. When he was with company he usually felt as confident as anything, but so far nobody in this town had so much as offered a 'hello'. Tom kicked off his shoes and stuck his feet in the cool stream, tearing off a piece of the leg and chewing it thoughtfully.

"I shouldn't have let Xander borrow my guitar, at least then I'd have something to do. I need to find someone who knows the way out of this place..."
He mumbled, pulling off another piece with his hand. He threw it into the stream and watched as some fish pecked away at it. He laughed and threw in some more. Suddenly he stopped and ran a hand through his light hair, looking around. He could have sworn he'd heard a noise, like someone was out there. Maybe whoever it was hadn't seen him, it might be best to leave now. But that would be the boring way out, so instead Tom made himself comfortable and started chucking rocks casually into the stream. He wasn't about to be driven away by anyone or anything.

Selousi peeked out from behind a cliff face that was lingering above the village. She trotted silently behind Tom, curious because she often didn't see many humans around these parts. She stared at him with her round rosy eyes as if there was something special about him. But surely he was just a normal person. She double took at the cliff face, her eyes darting from Tom to the rock formation. She backed up a bit as he sat down on a rock, she turned her head and watched him stroke his head. She began to advance again through the dirt ground but then came to a more gravely part. Since she was a heavy shinlai, a crunching sound was made and she ran back around the cliff face in fear of being seen by the human.

After he looked away however, she peeked out again and started to walk out again, trying to avoid making any sorts of noises for a precaution.

Oh hell. And the day had started so good. Ruan had decided to wake up properly by taking a bath in the stream. The weather was lovely and she had enjoyed herself by submerging and watching the tiny fish flit away and back. Her long, wavy black hair had needed some washing too, so she had stayed there for quite a while. And just as she thought nothing could ruin this day, some stupid whitehaired stranger had decided to sit down on the rock she hid her clothes under. Hell hell hell.

Carefully, Ruan crept through the bush to get a better look at the guy. He was surprisingly young and she now noticed that his hair was more blond then white. Actually, he was quite handsome. Pity that she was wearing nothing but her undercloth and that he was sitting on the rest of her stuff. She didn't even have a weapon. "Hmmm, there's nobody around here." She let out a frustrated his. Yes idiot, there is someone. Now get off.

"I shouldn't have let Xander borrow my guitar, at least then I'd have something to do. I need to find someone who knows the way out of this place..." the stranger said to himself, while tearing of chunks of a disgusting turkey leg. Ruans legs were cramping up from standing hunched over too long and she slightly shifted her weight. Mistake. The strangers head snapped up, his eyes scanning his surroundings. Suddenly he stopped, staring right at her and Ruan held her breath. Then he looked on and she realised he hadn't seen her. Oh well, she thought, might as well wait for him to leave in the stream. Of course, that's when a root caught her ankle and she crashed into the ground.

Selo cringed as she heard someone crash to the ground, she turned around and saw that Ruan was lying on the ground. Selo decided that it would be a helpful ruse if she had manipulated a root to block the humans path, thus she did. Causing a tad bit of havoc for once. She began to trot off. But in clear sight. Maybe the human saw her.

A few meters away, in a large tree, slept a slender adolescent human girl. Her name is Cyra. She is a mute human who prefers not to speak, and spends most of her time around trees.
Cyra slowly opens one eye, having been awoken by the sound of stones splashing into water. She discreetly scanned her surroundings, but jumped slightly after seeing a large green animal walk away. A Shinlai! She had never seen a Shinlai before, but she was told that they were very pretty creatures. This Shinlai was very pretty, no doubt! However, she kept her place up in the tree. She had no desire to disturb the animal.

When running away, Selo heard a slight noise that sounded like a shuffle. She stopped in place as her head shot up, scanning the area. She stood carefully, listening for any sort of thing that would give whatever it was away for it's hiding place.

She looked around but didn't see anyone but the two previous humans, one that was still lying face down on the ground.

She ran off again, this time actually running rather than trotting slowly. At this point she wasn't trying to be quiet.

Cyra looked down at the fallen human who had been tripped by the root.

She came to the conclusion that this Shinlai was not very friendly and began to slowly climb down from the tree, taking care to keep quiet so the creature wouldn't see her. She didn't mind the other two humans, though.

Selo finally decided to dart behind the cliff again and proceeded to laying down, she surveyed the human climbing from the tree from afar.

Cyra, oblivious to the fact that the Shinlai was watching her, got down from the tree and walked over to the human who had tripped. She held out her hand, offering to help the poor one who had tripped.

Dagda had seen everything. He was curled up between two buildings, his dark grey fur blending him into the dull stone. He watched as the white haired male sat on a rock, eating his turkey leg. Then as a familiar human woman, Ruan Tu, tried to stay concealed, and was tripped by the female earth Shinlai. He frowned slightly not seeing the point of why she had done that. As another female human approached her to help her up he tilted his head to one side, although he was quite far away there was something he might be able to do to help. Without so much of a blink, he contorted the root to release Ruan’s foot. He paused for a moment, waiting for Ruan Tu to climb to her feet.

He too stood, making himself clearly visible to the humans, bobbing his head curtly to Ruan Tu, before turning away, and circling the village, round behind the cliff, to stand directly behind the earth female.

“May I help you?” He asked, standing a few meters away from her, watching her as she surveyed the humans.

Cyra froze in terror, then slowly turned around. Another Shinlai! She was frightened. Would it eat her? Would it kill her? Would it do anything?
She simply stood, not moving and not speaking.

Selo widened her eyes as she saw the fearful human. She observed the area. The other shinlai was clearly an earth or balance shinlai. She wouldn't stand much of a chance against her if she tried to protect herself if he attacked. She continued to scan the area. The human that she had tripped was still delayed. Or at least it let her slip behind the rock to safety from the sly human and the other shinlai. She was still worried about her clumsyness due to the tree dwelling human though.

Cyra began to tear up as she crouched down. She got down onto the ground and braced herself for any impending attacks. She was terrified, and with her inability to talk she wasn't sure how to communicate with the animal.

Dagda’s eyebrows shot up as the human female crouched down and began to tear up. As far as he was aware he hadn’t done anything to threaten her. He sat down before laying on his side.

“Well there’s no need for that.” He said calmly. “I’m not going to hurt you.” He said, resting his head on his front paws.

“My name is Dagda. What is yours?” he asked, smiling at her, but making sure not to show his teeth.

Ahaloh made his way towards the stream, it was hot and he and Alessa had been traveling for days. The large male easily carried the woman atop his back to make better time towards their destination, but even so he was getting weary. They had traveled through the night to attempt to escape the heat of the sun and the sound of running water was pleasing to both of them. Even though Hallow was used to fire and heat...something about this weather made him dreary.

Alessa stiffly slipped off of Ahalohs back and stretched. "I thank you for you escort, I know I have said it alot but still it is much appreciated.

Hallow bristled his fur to let the cool air slip across his skin as he sat in the shade, completely unaware of the others that were nearby.

More curious, now that there were three shinlai around including herself, Selo began to venture out.
She saw also that the shinlai Dagda was not hostile.

Rhan stood nervously at the edge of a chilly stream, observing the ripples on the surface of the water and contemplating just how cold it might be. That morning had been cool, and her fur was still damp and heavy from the moisture of the thick mist. Needless to say, the Balance Shinlai was greatly dreading the fact that she still had to cross to the other side of the stream, and this would indeed make her fur much wetter and heavier, taking at least an entire day in the sun in order for it to dry completely.
She considered attempting to leap over the stream, yet dismissed this thought as her weight was too much for such a long jump, and would enevitably end with her plunging straight down into the middle.
But maybe if she found a more narrow part. . . ?
Flicking the mud from her paws, she continued to walk upstream in search of a more suitable area, when she caught a strange scent on the air, and froze. She knew there were humans in these parts, and she knew of the near-deserted village close by, yet the villagers never strayed this far from their small shacks. She squinted in the direction of the scent, identifying a large male Shinlai in the presence of 3 humans, one of which appeared to be half naked, and another Lai approaching. Cocking her head to one side, an amused smile curled her lips as curiosity got the better of her and she began to advance forward into plain view of the group. She was not usually one to approach humans so openly, yet she figured that if things started to get out of hand, she could veil herself in shadows and flee into the forest-- as much as she hated turning her back on a fight.

Cyra simply stared at the Shinlai in front of her. The creature wanted to know her name?
Cyra blushed and pointed at her voice box. She opened her mouth and no sound came out. Then she hung her head and looked at the ground shamefully.

Selo approached behind Dagda and spoke, "Um, hello.. Your name is Dagda right?"

When the woman pointed to her throat and indicated she could make no sound, Dagda nodded in realisation. “Ahhh you’re mute. Can you write?” He questioned, drawing in the dirt with a claw. “If you can write, I can read.” He said with a slightly proud grin.

He stopped for a moment and held out a paw to Ruan Tu. “I’d suggest hiding in my fur until we find some clothes for you.” He said with a chuckle.

He jumped slightly a voice spoke from behind him. "Um, hello... Your name is Dagda right?"

He craned his neck around to look at who had spoken. It was the earth female he had seen earlier. “Yes, I’m Dagda. Who might you be?” He enquired. While answering her, he glanced around the clearing, spotting another two Shinlai. One he knew and had met before, the other he didn’t recognise.

Cyra nodded slightly at the Shinlai and grabbed a small twig. She scratched out a very rough "My name is Crya" into the rough soil.

(Wow! That took off a little faster than I'd expected.
Poor Ruan, I don't think Tom is going to leave that rock unless he's forced off. XD)

Tom dropped his turkey leg and watched as everything seemed suddenly to come to life. How fascinating! He felt ashamed for not having seen them before, though it didn't seem to effect his mood too much. He was about to go and see what had happened to cause all the commotion, but another shinlai appeared across the way. He could investigate the others in just a moment, they didn't seem to be a threat. But he could have sworn that this one was smiling, and Tom didn't trust those who smiled. It was the sort of thing he might do, and he wasn't entirely trustworthy.

Tom watched Rhan curiously and stood up on top of the rock. He couldn't tell if she meant any harm, but if not it wouldn't be his first time encountering a hostile shinlai. He still had the three claw marks Rayner had given him as a reminder, he just kept them hidden under a bandage because the wound had still not healed.

As she neared the group, Rhan couldn't help but stifle a small laugh when one of the humans jumped to stand on the rock where he was previously seated, a defensive air about him. Standing to her full height, Rhan approached the boy cautiously, for she was just as unsure of him, yet she kept a confident demeanour about her. Baring her teeth slightly at him, just for the fun of it and to see if she could provoke a reaction.
"Settle down, human. I am not here to start anything", although the idea was lingering on the verge of her mind. She sat herself down at the edge of their gathering, observing those around her. "I am merely curious. These parts are generally quite deserted, and it has been some time since I have come across so many humans", she glanced quickly at the two Shinlai conversing across from her, "and Shinlai, together in such numbers. It is a strange place to meet."

Selo hung her head nervously around the others. "Um... I'm Selousi, sorry for any sort of trouble that I caused earlier.."

Selo glanced over to the Ruan human who was on the ground the last time she saw her.

"Um.. So what are you all doing here? I was just trying to find a quiet place to lie down.."

Alessa heard the new sounding commotion of conversation and the padding of large paws. She looked up and saw a group forming not far away. "Do you know any of them Hallow?"

Hallow heard as well and turned his head, noting that Dagda was amongst the crowd. "Yes... I know one of them... the mate to Alkyone. Would you care to see what the crowd is gathering for?"

Alessa splashed some water on her face and pulled her hair back. "Sure, but I don't think I will need to ride for such a short distance." She smiled and began to make her way towards the group. Hallow slowly following behind.
